Live Show Proven, Locally and Nationally.
Collectors of model horses can do more than just let their statues sit on a shelf collecting dust. There is a very active hobby of "Live" model horse showing, where collectors present their miniature horses to a judge who places them based on criteria such as realism, workmanship, rarity, and other factors.
The models may be shown by the artist, or purchased from the artist and shown by a collector as part of their string of "show horses". It is a way for people who enjoy art and the beauty of horses to gather and spend the day together. In a world where so much is shared online, it is refreshing to have a venue where hobbyists can meet and visit in person. It offers some of the joy of horses without the expense or time commitment of caring for the "real thing" which makes this hobby perfect for busy moms, retired persons, kids, or anyone who loves horses. Many 4-H programs now incorporate showing model horses.

Models must be painted and finished extremely well to stand up to this in-person scrutiny. No flaws can be hidden, like in a photo - no retouching or tricky camera angles here! The pinnacle of all "Live Shows" is the North American Nationals. A model horse must place first or second at a local show to get a "NAN Card" which qualifies it to enter Nationals. Once there, it competes against a table of other proven winners, viewed by a panel of three independent judges. To win a Champion or Reserve at NAN is a huge accomplishment.
